The tour Uros Islands, Amantani and Taquile 2 Days / 1 Night allows you to visit one of the highlights on the lake “the floating islands of the Uros”, an ancient ethnic group of people living in Lake Titicaca since pre-Inca times. They still maintain their original lifestyle: just fishing, hunting birds and collecting eggs. And using the reeds for almost everything, including eating. The men are excellent sailors and the women are expert weavers. For visitors to Lake Titicaca, a boat trip to the floating islands, a unique tourist destination, is a must. This is our superior service, the advantage of this trip is the sailing time which is reduced to less than half.
TAQUILE ISLAND:
Taquile is located 45 kilometers from the city of Puno – two and a half hours by boat – is famous for its textiles. On the island of Taquile, women and men weave. It is very impressive to see the men weaving as they walk along the steep paths of Taquile, and the women constantly spinning with every step. Most people on the island wear traditional clothing and Taquileños, as the people of Taquile are called, almost never marry people from outside the island.
In Taquile, the people speak Quechua, their economy is based on tourism, fishing and potato farming. Tourists who come to the island for a night stay are accommodated in the homes of local families. There are 70 families on the island and the island authorities will assign a family to the newly arrived traveler.
If you take a day trip to Taquile, we recommend that you climb to the lookout point, the highest point on the island, where you will have an incredible view of Lake Titicaca.
AMANTANI ISLAND:
Two hours away from Taquile by boat, you will find the island of Amantani. Here, the community is composed of 800 families and has also developed an ecotourism program. Live with a local family on the island and enjoy meals with them with traditional products such as quinoa and beans. Amantani has two mountain peaks, Pachata and Pachamama (father and mother earth). As in Taquile, there are beautiful agricultural terraces on the slopes with quinoa, potatoes and vegetables.
THE FLOATING ISLANDS OF THE UROS:
When traveling by boat on Lake Titicaca, the first islands you will see are the Floating Islands of the Uros, just five kilometers offshore. The Uros are descended from a culture of pre-Inca origin and maintain their traditional lifestyle to this day. They live on forty-two islands made of totora reeds that grow in Lake Titicaca. In the past, the islands were meant to be a refuge for the Incas.
Between 7.40 and 8 in the morning. Transfer from the hotel to the port and by motorboat, we take you to one of the legendary islands of the Uros, where you can observe the life of the Uros people who live on islands of floating reeds, some of which are only 20 meters long. After a beautiful 3-hour boat ride we arrive at Amantani Island, where we will divide into smaller groups to stay with local families. You have the opportunity to hike to the top of the mountain (4150 masl) to see the Pachamama and Pachatata temples and enjoy the traditional customs of the people of the island. Lunch and authentic music prepared and performed for lunch, dinner with your designated family meals.
Accommodation: rustic accommodation with family. Maximum altitude: 4150 masl.
After breakfast, we will take a short boat trip to the neighboring island of Taquile, where we will tour the ruins and visit these beautiful people, world famous for their intricate and fascinating weavings.
