Ausangate is one of the most scenic spots in the Andes Mountains of Peru. Ausangate stands out as one of the highest mountains in Cusco, the Nevado Ausangate (6385m.a.s.l.) It is located about 100 kilometers southeast of the city of Cusco. This excellent trekking circuit offers the traveler everything you could wish for: spectacular mountain scenery, snow-capped peaks, hot springs, turquoise lakes, glaciers, herds of llamas and alpacas, picturesque villages and traditionally dressed Quechuas. During the hike, you will be able to appreciate the presence of the diversity of ecosystems, with its variety of flora and fauna of the Peruvian highlands.
The mountainous geography of Cusco offers some of the most amazing landscapes in Peru, such as imposing snow-capped mountains, green valleys, fast-flowing rivers and impressive lagoons. To the south of the region, under the watchful eye of the Ausangate snow-capped mountain, is the so-called ‘Circuit of the 7 lagoons’. As its name indicates, this natural area runs through seven lagoons of transparent waters. There you can get some of the best photographs of the trip. The best way to go is with an all-inclusive tour.
Pick up from the hotel at 5:00 am Departure by bus, and head towards Ocongate, on the way we pass through the towns of (Urcos, Ccatca and Ocongate), here you can see the Vilcanota mountain range. After this tour we arrive at the town of Tinki where we will have a stop to visit the town and shop. Some things for our trip. and then we will continue our journey. 30 more minutes towards Pacchanta where we will appreciate the medicinal thermal baths. Located at 4100 meters above sea level, and then we get ready to leave our approximately 2 hour walk towards the 7 turquoise lagoons where we will enjoy our delicious lunch accompanied by the lagoons, after lunch where we can also do a small ritual in the Otorongo lagoon to ask permission from the APUS then we will continue our journey to appreciate the other lagoons our camp the first night 1. It will be in Pachaspata, where we can appreciate the Puka Punta mountain and see the sky illuminated by millions of stars, creating a direct path to Ausangate, which creates a cosmic connection with the Apus with a spectacular view.
Having breakfast at 7.00 am in the morning, we begin our walk uphill under the watchful eye of the most important Apus of the southern Andes, we will see a variety of ecosystems that maintain the great variety of flora and fauna. When we reach the pass (high 4800msnm -space). Arapa, we will have a magnificent view of this mountain range. Crossing the pass, we walk towards Sonccococha, Pukacocha, Ccomercocha, beautiful high Andean lagoons. Then, we will hike to get Pucaqocha which is (4670 masl) which will be our camp the second night 2. (Lunch and dinner)
Today we will cross the highest pass Palomani (5100 masl-15,748ft). We will leave early, keeping Ausangate and during the climb we will appreciate the red lagoon and then continue to the Palomani pass and you will be greeted by spectacular views of the southeastern sierra, including the peaks of Mariposa and Surimana. We give an offering to Ausangate and ask him to protect us on our journey. The process consists of collecting sweets and coca leaves. Each person takes four coca leaves and blows on them in the direction of each mountain peak while thinking good thoughts. Then we descend towards Ausangate ccocha (4650 masl-15,252ft), where we will camp. At sunset we will be able to appreciate the lagoon and Ausangate:
After breakfast we will continue the walk through a valley full of colorful mountains. And then we will arrive at Anantapata 4750 masl for approx. 2 hours where we will enjoy our lunch. And then we will take a nap. To then continue uphill for 2 more hours, where we will be able to appreciate. Lagoons and peaks, once we reach the Warmi sayana pass located at 4970 masl and from there we will be able to appreciate the famous colorful mountain of colors. And then we will continue downhill for 1 more hour, and during the way we will also appreciate the 2 beautiful lagoons. Where birds of all kinds usually live and also vizcachas, alpacas, Andean condor, skunks, until we reach the last camp of Soroccocha located at 4800 masl and we will spend the last spectacular night.
After another early breakfast with your trekking team, you will gradually climb for an hour until we reach the famous Rainbow Mountains and the Red Valley, located at 5,100 m / 17,060 ft elevation. Your guide will lead you to the perfect spots for postcard photos. He will also explain why these mountains are different from any other mountains in the Vilcanota Mountain Range. Part of the difference is due to the composition of various minerals, which create different colors of stone striations in the middle of the Red Mountains. This is one of the main tourist attractions in South America and one of the most beautiful natural attractions in Peru.
After taking pictures and enjoying the views, we will continue our tour to Valle Rojo which is 45 minutes away where we will enjoy an excellent view of Valle Rojo and then return to the Chillihuani community where we will enjoy our lunch and a short break. Then, we will drive for 3 hours to Cusco and we will drop you off at your hotel. You will arrive in Cusco around 5 pm end of the expedition and thank you very much.
